Tonga hotels are few and far between with business style hotels in Nukualofa Town, a couple of offshore island beach resorts and a handful of small resorts scattered around the outer islands of Haapai & Vavau - the largest of these has just 26 bungalows. The most expensive resort in Tonga offers traditional style fales (bungalows) for less than US$150 per night. Accommodation in Tonga offers exceptional value for money - expect to pay just US$15 for a budget room and US$70 - 150 for an holiday beach resort. Hotel rooms in Nukualofa Town cost around US$50 per night.

On the main island of Tongatapu, the best resorts are found on the gorgeous offshore islands - upmarket Fafa Island Resort and the budget Royal Sunset Resort , both just 20-minutes by boat accross the lagoon from Nukualofa Town. These two resorts occupy small coral islands with lovely beaches, good snorkelling and offer perhaps the best value for money anywhere in the South Pacific.

Nuku'alofa, the capital, has several large hotels (over 50 rooms) and plenty of guest houses and budget style motels, most of which are found across the road from the harbour including the excellent Waterfront Lodge, a small upmarket guesthouse. The only accommodation on Tongatapu outside Nuku'alofa is a couple of backpacker hostels on the west tip of the island around Ha'atafu Beach and Kolovai.

The Ha'apai group is even more low key with just a handful of guesthouses on Lifuka and Sandy Beach Resort, the only resort in the group on adjacent Foa Island.

The popular Vava'u Group has the most accommodation options, with several small beach resorts on tiny palm fringed islands. Neiafu Town, the main centre of the group overlooking the harbour has several guesthouses and hotels.

	Tongan Beach Resort Pangaimotu Island, Vavau Group Pleasant small resort facing inlet. 12 bungalows in duplex buildings very comfortable and modern. Nice restaurant. Beach OK for swimming / snorkelling.
	Sandy Beach Resort Foa Island, Haapai Group 12 modern beach cottages with great restaurant and scuba diving offshore. This is the only resort in this group - great for exploring villages.
	Royal Sunset Resort Atata, Tongatapu Lagoon Small resort with 22 bungalow accommodation but lots of activities including sailing, diving and island trips. Nice restaurant and beach location.
	Blue Lagoon Resort Motu, Vavau Group Delightful down to earth resort with hand crafted traditional bungalows - gorgeous beach but 45 mins by small boat from Neiafu - only for adventurous people.
	International Dateline Hotel Nukualofa Town, Tongatapu Island Large hotel in Nukualofa Town with modern suites and basic rooms, pool, 24hr reception. Across road from harbour wall, 5 mins walk to downtown.

	Mystic Sands Pangaimotu Island, Vavau Group Self catering duplex bungalows with kitchettes in quiet location overlooking causeway to Neiafu - good base for exploring and snorkelling offshore.
